Scott Speeds onto F1 lineup - 04 June 2005
For the first time since Michael Andretti in 1993, an American-born race driver will grace a grand prix circuit from next weekend.
Red Bull said California's aptly named Scott Speed, 22, is to pilot the 'third' RB1 during Friday practice at the North American double header, coinciding with a gap in the GP2 calendar.
'Scott is the most promising talent to come out of the USA for some considerable time,' said team principal Christian Horner.
'We'll be watching his progress with interest.'
Elsewhere on the Anglo-Austrian team's revised line-up is Christian Klien, who returns after a four week break to replace Tonio Liuzzi.
'I don't know what to expect,' Scott Speed grinned, 'but I'm there to do a job, so don't feel extra pressure.'
